We were delighted to host the ITQ Severo Ochoa Lecture “Light, Nano, and Functional Interfaces at work: from Fundamentals to Catalysis” last Friday at the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), organized by the Instituto de Tecnología Química (UPV-CSIC). The event featured distinguished presentations by Maurizio Prato, Marcella Bonchio, and José Ramón Galán-Mascarós.
💡 Maurizio Prato delivered the lecture titled “Carbon Nanodots: Nanolights for a Bright Future.” Maurizio Prato is a Professor in the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Università degli Studi di Trieste, Italy, and a researcher at CIC BiomaGUNE, San Sebastián, Spain. His talk focused on the advancements in the synthesis and applications of carbon nanodots in nanotechnology.
🔬 Marcella Bonchio continued with a presentation on “Bioinspired Supramolecular Photosynthesis.” Marcella Bonchio is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemical Science at the Università degli Studi di Padova, ITM-CNR, and INSTM unit in Padova, Italy. She discussed innovative research on synthetic systems mimicking natural photosynthesis processes.
🌿 Finally, José Ramón Galán-Mascarósós presented on “Artificial Leaves: Optimising Solar-to-Fuels Efficiency at a Low Cost.” José Ramón Galán-Mascarós is a Professor at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ). His talk highlighted the development of cost-effective artificial leaf devices for efficient solar-to-fuel conversion.
🌏 The topics covered in the lectures represent a significant leap towards the future of energy. The participants posed very interesting questions during the conferences, which helped to better understand the content.
