Shaping Sustainable Solutions Together: SUPERVAL Consortium Meets in Valencia

May 28

The SUPERVAL consortium convened in Valencia on May 27–28, 2025, for its M18 General Meeting, hosted by the HG energy group ITQ-UPV/CSIC at Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). Over two days, partners from all eight institutions involved in the project came together to share updates, discuss ongoing work, and explore future steps for advancing sustainable solar-driven technologies.

The meeting took place at the Ciudad Politécnica de la Innovación UPV. After a welcome cocktail, the sessions began with project coordinator JR Galán-Mascarós (ICIQ) introducing the agenda. Throughout the afternoon, work package leaders presented progress in key technical areas, including photo-electrochemical CO and water conversion, photocatalytic nitrogen fixation, device integration, and project management. Contributions came from team members representing ICIQ-CERCA, UPV, INSTM/UniME, Orchestra Scientific (ORS), Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ), TU Eindhoven, VARESER, and 2.-0 LCA Consultants.

The sessions not only provided technical updates but also generated productive discussions and exchanges between institutions, helping align approaches and define priorities for the next project phase. The atmosphere throughout was collaborative and grounded in a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and technological impact.

On the second day, after a wrap-up session and planning of future meetings, participants toured the ITQ-UPV laboratory facilities, guided by Josep Albero. The visit offered a closer look at the infrastructure supporting SUPERVAL’s experimental activities and was a great opportunity to experience firsthand the spaces where much of the research is taking place.

This meeting marked another important step in building cohesion across the consortium and strengthening the interdisciplinary links that define the SUPERVAL project.
