Prof. Hermenegildo García from HG energy receives Luso‑Spanish Chemistry Prize in Coimbra
On 21 July 2025, Prof. Hermenegildo García from HG energy received the Luso‑Spanish Chemistry Prize during the XXIX National Meeting of the Portuguese Chemical Society (xxixenspq.events.chemistry.pt), held at the University of Coimbra.
The award recognises his long-standing contributions to sustainable chemistry—particularly his research on Metal‑Organic Frameworks (MOFs) as solar photocatalysts to produce renewable fuels. During the plenary session, Prof. García presented this work under the title “Metal-Organic Frameworks as Versatile Solar Photocatalysts to Produce Renewable Fuels”, focusing on MOFs as efficient systems for solar-driven water splitting and CO₂ reduction without the need for sacrificial agents.
The conference brought together researchers from across Portugal, Spain, and beyond—highlighting the value of international collaboration in advancing chemistry and clean energy.
We would like to thank Carlos Baleizão, Claudia Gomes, and Filipa Riveiro for their support in proposing Prof. García for this recognition, and for contributing to an excellently organised event that fostered a rich scientific atmosphere, meaningful exchanges, and open dialogue throughout.
