The PHOTORED project has reached its conclusion, and we are pleased to share the results of this collaborative research effort, which has made significant strides in advancing sustainable technology. Over the past three years, PHOTORED has focused on pioneering methods to capture CO₂ and produce green fuels, helping to pave the way toward a more sustainable industry.
Among the key achievements of the project are:
- Material Performance for CO₂ Capture: Development of innovative materials capable of capturing CO₂ from biogas, demonstrating effective methods for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Optimization of Hydrogen Feed Systems: Refining and assembling a hydrogen feed system that maximizes efficiency, a critical step in sustainable fuel production.
- Photocatalytic Reactor Design: Designing and developing photocatalytic reactors capable of producing synthetic fuels from CO₂ and H₂, offering a promising alternative to fossil fuels.
During the final coordination meeting, project partners reviewed these outcomes and outlined future steps to continue building on these advancements. The work carried out in PHOTORED represents a significant contribution to the transition toward greener, more sustainable industrial processes.
About PHOTORED:
PHOTORED (PLEC2021-007831) is a research project funded by the Spanish Research State Agency (AEI) through the European Union’s “NextGenerationEU” Recovery Plan. It is part of Spain’s State Program “R+D+i Oriented to the Challenges of Society,” under the framework of the 2017-2020 State Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation.
Coordinated by the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) and led by Emilio Palomares, the project brought together a consortium of experts with complementary skills: ICIQ and the HG-energy ITQ-UPV/CSIC Universitàt Politècnica de València focused on materials preparation and photocatalysis; the Industrial-Technological Centre of Castilla La Mancha (ITECAM) specialized in green hydrogen production; and the company DAM brought expertise in urban wastewater treatment and biogas exploitation.
We extend our gratitude to all partners and funders who made this project possible. PHOTORED has set a solid foundation for future innovation in CO₂ capture, green hydrogen, and sustainable fuel production, contributing to a cleaner, more resilient industry.
